Quimbanda Goetia Spirit Sigils

Quimbanda Goetia Spirit Sigils

(Pontos Riscados)

The term sigil derives from the Latin “sigillum”, meaning "seal". The current use of the term is derived from Renaissance magic, which was in turn inspired by the magical traditions of antiquity. In medieval ceremonial magic, the term sigil was commonly used to refer to occult signs which represented various angels and demons which the magician might summon. The magical training books called Grimoires often listed
pages of such sigils. A particularly well known list is in The Lesser Key of Solomon, in which the sigils of the 72 princes of the hierarchy of hell are given for the magician's use. Such sigils were considered to be the equivalent of the true name of the spirit and thus granted the magician a measure of control over the beings. A common method of creating the sigils of certain spirits was to use kameas (magic squares) - the names of the spirits were converted to numbers, which were then located on the magic square. The locations were then connected by lines, forming an abstract figure. The use of
symbols for magical or cultic purposes has been widespread since at least the Neolithic era. Some examples from other cultures include the yantra from Hindu tantra, historical runic magic among the Germanic peoples, or the use of veves in Voudon. The inherently individualistic nature of chaos magic leads most chaos magicians to prepare and cast or "charge" sigils in unique ways, as the process of sigilization has not been rigorously defined. Sigils are used for spells as well as for the creation of thought forms. Unlike with traditional sigils, whose creators made use of traditional lore passed down from generations or from books, modern users often create sigils entirely themselves
and devise individual means of "charging" them with metaphysical power. In the American Quimbanda, Gnostic Orthodox Rite magico-religious tradition, spirit signature sigils (a sacred mystical seal) are symbols connected to a set of ideas by which spirits or deities may be summoned to awareness and controlled. The spirit signature sigils connect the spirits to our earthly realm. In the Portuguese language they are called “Pontos Riscados”. The spirit signature sigils when used in the appropriate magical manner open up the doors to world of the supernatural. They are used in divinatory practices. The spirit signature sigil itself when drawn out on the ground or drawn on an object will call forth the spirit. The spirit signature sigil also serves as a physical focus through which the initiate achieves the desired state of mind. Spirit signature sigils represent the secret names of spirits and deities who manifest themselves differently to each magic practitioner. Once the initiate has summoned the spirit or deity he may control it, if necessary, by subjecting its sigil to fire or the use of a
magical sword or machete. Spirit signature sigils can also serve as amulets, talismans, or meditation tools. Quimbanda spirit signature sigils used by the initiates of the American Quimbanda, Gnostic Orthodox Rite may be of various signs, such as crosses, tridents, stars associated with different deities. Initiates often times inscribe the spirit signature sigil on ceremonial ritual objects, candles or objects of silver, brass, gold, or glass. Such spirit signatures sigils are considered to be magically powerful. Initiates of the American Quimbanda, Gnostic Orthodox Rite also draw these very sacred and powerful spirit signature sigils directly on the ground in front of the Solomonic Quimbanda Goetia Spirit ngangas (Spirit Vessels) of the Mysteries of the 72 Astral Exu Spirit Vessels to invoke and to summon the deities to appear and to send them to do their bidding. The Goetia Spirit Sigils that are used in the practice of traditional Western Magick can be used to summon the Astral Spirits to Earth and to manifest your desires into a reality, however in the practice of the Quimbanda Goetia by initiates of American Quimbanda, Gnostic Orthodox Rite magickal practice, there are also a set of unique Afro-Brazilian Goetia Spirit Sigils (Pontos Riscados) that are used to represent and reflect the uniqueness of the Quimbanda Goetia Spirits realm. This Grimoire of Afro-
Brazilian Ceremonial High Magick will only include a few of these Quimbanda Goetia Spirit Sigils which represent the central spiritual guiding force of the Holy Quimbanda Trinity (Exu Maioral, Exu Rei & Maria Padilla Reina). For those initiates seeking the desire to advance your mystical studies and greater mysteries into the realm of the Quimbanda Goetia, these unique Afro-Brazilian Quimbanda Goetia Spirit Sigils are
available in our books of advanced magickal studies of ceremonial high magick.
